Renovation and development of this exhibit hallway was made possible through awards and donations from: FreeportMcMoRan Copper and Gold – Miami Operations, Resolution Copper Mining, Carlotta (KGHM), BHP – Miami Unit, volunteers, and many others. The Hallway conveys a sense of underground mine operations through the use of artifacts and the portrayal of history in the Globe/Miami area and the area in and around the town of Superior, Pinal County, Arizona. The end of the hallway portrays mining of the century past … giving a three dimensional quality to the exhibit using full size photo enlargements and low light illumination. Down the steps to the left … is the hoist room … with a full size 1882 steam hoist resting in the shadows.
Thanks to further partnership with BHP – Miami Unit … there will be additions to this exhibit in the near future, including artifacts from the #5 Hoist house and surrounding mine property. The Mining Heritage Collection showcases the Mine Hallway, a carefully arranged combination of vintage objects, photographs and paintings, that visually lead museum visitors into a mine-like environment.
