Bullion Plaza Cultural Center & Museum will host the Smithsonian Water/Ways Exhibit this Fall from September 22nd through November 4th 2018. Visit us to attend programs and explore Arizona’s water stories. Water/Ways is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and state humanities councils. This unique cultural project is made possible by Arizona Humanities, and the Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives and School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies at Arizona State University (Walton/ASU), with funding from Congress, and sponsors including Salt River Project, Nestlé Waters and Chaos RX Optics.

The traveling national Smithsonian exhibit is scheduled to reach a dozen rural areas in Arizona from Summer 2018 to early 2020. In addition to Miami-Globe, exhibit host sites include Bisbee, Fort Apache, Florence, Sierra Vista, Dragoon, Winkelman, Page, Camp Verde, Tubac, Black Canyon City and Lake Havasu City. Water/Ways opened in Bisbee, Arizona on June 2nd 2018. Bullion Plaza’s Executive Director, Thomas Foster, and Board Secretary, Mary Anne Moreno, attended a two-day training workshop at the Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum. They also assisted in assembly and setup of the Water/Ways exhibit.

WaterSim Arizona, a digital water balance systems model for five regions of the state of Arizona and project of Walton/ASU and the Decision Center for a Desert City (DCDC), will debut within Water/Ways. It will be offered to teachers as a tool for students to use in the classroom.

The Water/Ways exhibit examines the topic of water… its history, importance, use and relationship to our lives… on many levels. Water forms our world and our lives. In Arizona, few topics are quite as critcial. Water is life-giving, and central to many rituals and ceremonies around the world. It inspires art and music. What does water mean to you? What role does it play in your work, your town, your neighborhood and your worldview?

Bullion Plaza is planning photographic art, speakers and other presentations to coincide with this exhibit. Visitors are encouraged to tell their own water stories. We invite you to attend – join our Water/Ways Exhibit Opening Event on Facebook. We look forward to your participation!
